Ok, so it’s been like a week since we left Mount Rushmore and went to…
CRAZY HORSE MONUMENT! But bear (country har har) with me. We’ll just do a little time travel, so you can get the full effect of our South Dakota splendor.
Anyways, the Crazy Horse memorial, which we went to after Mount Rushmore, was started in May of 1947. Sculptor Korczak Ziolkowski was invited by Lakota Chief Henry Standing Bear to sculpt Crazy Horse.
Ziolkowski was quite the mountain man, no?
Crazy Horse was an Indian chief who fought for Native Americans in the United States, never signed a treaty with the government and was stabbed in the back by an American solider in 1877.
Crazy Horse is a work in progress. When it is finished it will be the biggest monument in the world.
Seems like they have a bit of mountain left to blast…
At least they aren’t using this thing anymore to blast out chunks of rock:
Don’t even ask me how this worked. I have no idea. I’m also going to go with it didn’t work too well, considering they have basically the entire monument to finish.
Our journey kept going after Crazy Horse! Read on!
Thanks for posting this! Amazing thoughts!
